Say AHHHHHHHHHHH

Today Joseph visited the dentist for the first time.  Laurie convinced me at my last dental check up that Joseph should visit her this summer. All I could think of is how dreadful visits to the pediatrician with Joseph are!  She promised she would go easy on him, and that if all she could do was count his teeth, then she'd leave it at that.  When we walked in at 9:30 she had Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins on the TV, which immediately caught his attention in a good way.  He was very curious and she totally took advantage of his willingness to check things out.  Within the first 5 minutes she had him in the chair, elevated, reclined, and his teeth all counted.  She was yapping on and on about how she cleans Mommy's teeth, and Grandma and Grandpa's teeth, and Aunt Dana and Aunt Chrissy's teeth...he was eating it all up!  Next came the scraping...YES, SCRAPING!  As badly as he wanted to cry and make her stop I think he was just too darn curious!  As she scraped here and there she just kept yapping to him about his teeth and good brushing and flossing.  He just kept looking at her with his mouth wide open...actually I'm not sure what was open wider- his mouth or his eyes.  After Laurie scraped a few teeth she took out the tooth polisher and let him try it out on his finger.  Again, he sat so nice and still...she polished them all right up!  Before his first visit ended, Dr. Bruce came in to count his teeth and tell him how brave he was.  HE DID GREAT!!!  He was pretty bummed to find out they don't give out lollipops but made a quick turn around when they presented him with a balloon and opened the treasure chest full of prizes for him to choose from.
Sadly, both Laurie and Dr. Bruce shared that they see quite a bit of orthodontic work in Joseph's future because he has such a small mouth and such crowding already. Hmmmmmmmm.
